For Your Viewing Pleasure: Take 3

This was another great week of videos. There is lots of great stuff so sit back and getcha popcorn ready!

Joe Hashey- Under the Bar Workout Experience. Here Joe busts out some crazy training right before speaking at an NSCA conference. This is awesome. Talk about practicing what you preach!

John Alvino- Trapbar Deadlifts 405×20. High rep deadlifts are brutal. High rep deadlifts with 405 are beyond brutal. This is a combination of enormous strength and tremendous fortitude. When I watch this sort of stuff part of me wants to get right up from my computer and start training.

Nick Tumminello- Body Saw Variation. Here Nick shows a cool bodysaw variation to add difficulty. I have recently started using the bodysaw and have played around with ways to make it harder so I had a special appreciate for this. I will certainly be trying this out myself.

Kevin Carr- Triple Extension Overhead Med Ball Toss. Kevin shows a great medicine ball exercise that he used personally to increase his vertical jump. Most medicine ball movements focus primarily on upper body power but Kevin shows us how to incorporate triple extension for total body power. I train alongside Kevin and it is crazy watching him launch the ball so high in the air. Trust me, those med balls are not as light as he makes them look!

Smitty Diesel- Advanced Lower Body Plyometric Training. Here Smitty shows us some unique plyometric training for the lower body. I love his creative approach and he always seems to come up with great new ways to get better. I also LOVED this squats with sandbags and chains. I imagine this has a similar feel to a goblet or zercher squat, but it looks way cooler.

Dewey Nielsen- Metabolic Mayhem. Dewey shows us an awesome conditioning finisher. I admit that I am not a fan of most conditioning stuff, but I could see myself having fun with this. Sure beats the heck out of the treadmill.

Jaime Rodriguez- Pistols Squats on Airex Pad. Jaime puts on an impressive display showing a way to do pistol squats on an unstable surface. You can imagine how tough this is. Jaime is a beast.

Martin Rooney- Pullup 15 Circuit. I love how Martin uses bodyweight training in so many different ways. So simple, so effective. This circuit looks really tough.

Tony Gentilcore- Sumo Deadlifts with Extra Protection. This is some funny stuff. You can never be too safe! This guy just needs a helmet and he’d be all set.

Jen Comas and Michael Keck- How to Make Protein Ice Cream. Jen Comas and Michael Keck of Elitefts show us a cool way to make healthy ice cream. I will admit that I would never have the patience to make something like this, but I figure some of you might. Mike is a good friend of mine, and I have always been impressed with his culinary skills. He cooks like a girl, and I mean that as a compliment. Jen got this recipe from Jaime Eason, so it obviously does the body good. Jen tells me it is delicious as well. Unless I get someone to make it for me, I’ll have to take her word for.

D3hundred- Crazy Bodyweight Moves. If you have not seen this guy in action, you have to check this out. This guy is an animal: weighs 300 lbs and does bodyweight moves that most skinny guy will never come close to being able to do. Wow.

D3hundred- Chest and Abs. This video is not from this week, but I was looking through this guys stuff after watching the previous video and came across this and just had to post it. Anyone that has read Stuart McGill will probably want to close their eyes or not click on this link.

Rich Thaw- Hockey Warmup. Rich is a former intern at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning and is an up and coming strength coach. He is a great guy and brutally strong and explosive to boot. Here he shows a comprehensive warmup to use prior to working out.

Zach Even Esh- Wrestlers Prepare for Battle. I always love watching Zan train his athletes. He comes up with some really cool stuff, and I imagine his athletes have a blast.

Daft Bodies- Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. I saw this video posted on Elitefts and had to put it in here. It’s not training per se, but this is just crazy!

    Hey Ben, long time reader, first time subscriber.

    I was doing those body saws yesterday with a 45 lb plate on my butt/lower back, which has led me to two things:

    1- How do you body saw without tearing the skin off your elbow? As in, am I doing something wrong that I'm putting so much weight and friction at the elbow?

    2- When my elbow went down I switched to a body-saw variation with both arms fully extended and my hands were the pivot points, rather than my elbows. It felt a lot harder, not sure if you want to try it.

    Joe- First off, thanks for joining. As for the elbow issue, I'm not sure what to tell you because I have not has this problem. Maybe put a towel down? As for the variation on your hands, that works well too since you are moving to a longer lever. Both are great.
